As a co-founder of CLS Financial Advisors, Inc., Lori believes that the financial planning process enables each of us to find our path, achieve our unique goals, and realize peace of mind. Lori loves to listen to each client’s unique story to learn about their life, and she customizes the planning process to meet their individual needs and dreams.
Early on in her career, Lori got firsthand experience about the importance of financial planning and how integral it is to life’s events. While working as a tax specialist, a close family member received a devastating and unexpected diagnosis, and Lori had to learn quickly, under crisis conditions, the complexities and realities of mounting medical costs. Vowing never to be caught unprepared in such a way again, she used this experience as inspiration for incorporating tax knowledge into her holistic financial planning approach. This life experience taught her that it is not only important to be prepared for the unexpected, but also how empowering intentional financial planning can be when taking charge of our lives.
Lori began her career in public accounting as a CPA. She attained her Master’s in Taxation Degree and worked as a tax manager at the international accounting firm, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells. Later, Lori joined Schultz Group CPAs (formerly Schultz & Crouse, P.C.), where she was an owner from 1993-2019, and Lori also taught accounting at the University of Portland for two years. After many years providing tax planning services as a CPA firm partner, Lori co-founded CLS Financial Advisors, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm, and now focuses on financial planning and investment advising.
In addition to her client work, Lori volunteers for the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and has earned the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential for financial planning. She is a member of the CPA Evolution task force, which is studying new opportunities for the future of the CPA profession. She is also a past commissioner of the National Accreditation Commission, a senior AICPA committee that reports directly to the Institutes’ Board to promote personal financial planning and other specialty areas for CPAs. She has also been a member of the CPA/PFS Financial Planners' Executive Committee, the CPA/PFS Credential Committee, and a national networking group of CPA/PFS planners. Additionally, Lori has been interviewed for various published articles in the Journal of Accountancy and written for the Tax Adviser magazine.
Lori enjoys many outdoor activities, including hiking and cross-country skiing. She also likes to swim, travel, and spend time with her family.
